Hey gals and guys,

I’m a sucker for splashy marketing ploys, so I admit to getting easily sucked into buying things that I absolutely do not need.  The local thrift shop now houses many of those hasty purchases.  The other day I was out and about and two things caught my eye, but instead I saved my hard earned bucks and mixed up my own versions at home.  Easy and rewarding, plus I now have $44 in my pocket that I can spend on other things I don’t need.  :-)

Lip scrub, anyone?  On the shelf it seemed like a good idea since my lips are already developing their unnattractive winter chap.  The applicator was handy, but I really don’t think I’m going to be using this in public, so do I need an applicator?  Nope.  Instead, I mixed 1 teaspoon brown sugar with 1 teaspoon olive oil in my palm and with my index finger rubbed it gently over my lips for a few minutes.  Wiped it off (maybe licked a little too!) and presto…super soft lips!  Plus, it tasted waaaaay better than the stuff I tested at the makeup counter.

The other item that called to me was a fruit enzyme peel (mask).  Oooooh, this sounded kind of exciting as it promised to rid me of dull, lifeless skin and I was feeling a little dull around the edges.  After reading the ingredients and realizing there were a couple of things in there (parabens!!!) that I don’t want to put on my skin, I went home in search of an alternative.  I pulled a pumpkin off the porch waiting to be carved for Halloween, pureed a chunk in the blender, drained it and mixed 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree with 1 tablespoon plain organic yogurt and 1 teaspoon honey.  Good enough to eat, but I refrained and spread this on my face while relaxing in a hot bathtub for 20 minutes.  Voila!  Radiant skin that was glowing, smooth and soft as a baby’s bum.  Pumpkin contains enzymes that gently exfoliate and yogurt contains lactic acid that softens skin.  Honey is a natural humectant that draws moisture to your skin and is excellent for dry skin!  Other fruits that work well - pineapple, papaya and strawberries.  Sort of a smoothie for your face.  YUM!

So, if you’re feeling the need for some pampering in the comfort of your own home…I highly recommend trying both of these easy treatments.

Have a naturally fabulous day!
